Fake Blood live in Brighton Digital

March 15, 2009

Theo Keating, one half of The Black Ghosts with ex-Simian vocalist Simon Lord and previously known as DJ Touché as one half of the 90’s Big Beat band The Wiseguys, played in Brighton Digital last night under his Fake Blood alias. Even though he was one of the top remixers and producers of 2008, it wasn’t until last November that Theo was outed as the true identity of Fake Blood. Everyone was asking “Who is Fake Blood?”

The night lasted until 4am and his unmissable characteristic bass heavy sound with rave breakdowns and signature Fake Blood name drops sounded absolutly amazing on Digital’s £1million soundsystem. Certainly one of the best nights I’ve had in a long time. So if he plays a club near you make sure you get yourself there!

MixMag March 2009

March 14, 2009

Another great issue from the best magazine for all the best electronic music. Like last month, the free mix is a great selection on Techno, this time courtesy of the German legend Timo Maas. Timo’s mix is heavier than Pete Tong’s mix last week but is just as fantastic. The mix is worth the £4.20 alone! Both Timo and Pete understand that it looks as if Techno will play an important role in the near future of electronic music.

Well worth £4.20.

Harmonic 313 – When Machines Exceed Human Intelligence

March 3, 2009

Mark Pritchard is known for his ambient releases as one half of Global Communications. However, on this album released by Warp the influences can be clearly heard as the bass heavy hip hop and techno genres. The bass on the album is pounding but it remains challenging and lovers of IDM should enjoy most of the tracks. The vast range of genres span from hip hop on ‘Battlestar’ featuring rappers Phat Kat and Elzhi, to techno on ‘Flaash’, to Dubstep on ‘Dirtbox’ and Mark hasn’t forgotten his roots in the ambient inspired ‘Koln’. It sounds like a MacBook’s attempt at hip hop production and, personally, I think it’s great. Have a listen to the track ‘No Way Out’ below.
